Are you a doer, striver, perfectionist? Do you try really hard, put in the effort, do it all yourself, but it’s never enough?

What they don’t tell you when studying voice is that our mental outlook and patterns of mind are hugely important.

When it comes to singing, unhelpful ways of thinking involving over-effort and excessive striving for perfection or approval can manifest in restrictions in the body. If you are worried about the right or wrong way to sound, are trying to sound like someone else, or find yourself struggling to please or satisfy others, you are most likely engaged in a system of Doing rather than Being.

However, when we sound from a place of Being, singing can become a way to connect with our true self, a place of safety, joy and aliveness. And not only that - our sense of vocal ease and authentic expression also improves! Learning how to BE instead of DO not only helps you sing better, it will heal your relationship with your self, and unlock the deeper pleasures and fulfilment of singing and moving with gentleness and compassion, with a body full of aliveness.

In this 6 week course, we will look at six particular areas of the body in order to identify and deconstruct common patterns of mind. We will explore the inner landscape of our body and breath, finding new ways to embody the voice as a whole. We will develop new perspectives on “tension”, “tone”, and “effort”, as well as dive into the world of micro-movements. Classes will involve movement explorations and plenty of space for improvising with the voice, both alone and in small groups.

What you will receive:

  • A link to access a Vimeo showcase containing 6 recorded classes.

  • 6 hours of tuition

  • Invitation to join the Voice & Body Facebook group to discuss your thoughts and ideas with the community, as well as the opportunity to email Kate with any questions or concerns at any time.

  • “While I’ve done some bodywork and like using my voice the combination of the two with the looseness and the improvisation absolutely and profoundly connected with me. To such an extent that I found it quite hard to realise that something had been missing in my life for so long.”

  • “Allowing myself to feel joy in my body and therefore my voice! I had been feeling creatively and vocally “stuck”/stressed about how I was creating sound, and through these workshops I’ve found lightness, fun, and joy again - it’s less of a battle. Embodied Voice = harmony between body + sound, thinking with my body and feeling aware of how it supports me!”
