Self-Image
How concepts of movement shape the voice
Introducing a new paradigm
6 Sessions Online
March 9, 16, 23, 30, April 6, 13
The narratives we tell ourselves about our body play a huge role in shaping our voice - but most of the time we’re telling the wrong story!
Our brain organises our movement based on our self image. Many of us may operate under a biomechanical model, in which the body functions like a machine made of parts. When we perceive our body (and also our voice) in this way, we miss out on the complexity - and the rich possibilities - inherent in our system.
In this series of The Embodied Voice, we will work our way towards embodying - and singing - from a bio-tensegrity perspective, whilst integrating important implications regarding the nervous system and the concept of co-regulation.
In each workshop we will focus one aspect of the body that is usually left out of the singing studio - merging targeted lessons on brain science and anatomy with embodied learning exercises.
We will explore concepts of elongation, compression, gravity, space, strength, elasticity, fluidity, coordination, self-regulation, co-regulation, and more.
Week 1 - The Bio-mechanical Model
Week 2 - Bones
Week 3 - Fascia
Week 4 - The Bio-tensegrity Model
Week 5 - Nervous System
Week 6 - Co-regulation
As we expand and diversify our felt knowledge of the body, we will find new sources of ease, resilience and joy in moving, greater connection and expressivity in the voice, and experience new ways of being in the mind and body.
These workshops are intended for anyone who would like to explore their voice for any purpose from a body-centred perspective. No prior experience as a singer or mover is needed.

“You really get a chance to explore with your mind body connection whilst learning loads about how your body actually works. This course completely improves and revitalises your day to day experiences.
“Thank you for so much input! There were so many informations and different exercises in each course. It’s a lot of material to explore, specially good for people who want to use the video to repeat some exercises afterwards.
“I enjoyed to viewing deeper into the body and voice connection. It can’t be experienced enough and there are always new explorations and surprises. I got inspirations and new ideas - especially about fascia, nervous system and diaphragms - they’re now on my agenda of research for my own teaching and singing. ”
