The Embodied Voice in Berlin

A One-Day Introduction
June 22nd, 2025

A holistic day of voice, movement, and improvisation to introduce experienced singers to The Embodied Voice’s unique blend of somatics and creative voice.

The Embodied Voice is a practice for living more joyfully in mind and body by bringing together voice, movement, mindfulness, and improvisation. Balancing science and technique with play and creativity, it fosters the holistic integration of voice and body leading to greater presence, authentic expression, and meaningful connection with self and others.

Join us for a holistic introduction to The Embodied Voice’s unique blend of somatics and creative voice. The morning will be spent exploring the personal, inner world of voice and embodiment, followed by a relaxed group lunch in the garden. In the afternoon we’ll dive into collective play, using games and structures to create music in the moment.

  • "Katie holds a magical space in her retreats that is improvisational, playful, educational, and safe. She creates connection by leading you through exercises that stretch your voice, your body and your heart. I have sung my whole life but had never done improvisational voice exercises before this retreat. I left using these exercises on my own and met a whole new group of friends from around the world who also love voice, embodiment and play."

  • “Kate's facilitation is seriously joyful and expansive, bringing out permission to play out of every participant, wherever it is they are at in their paths and relationship with their voices-bodies.”

Morning Session:
Somatics & The Singing Body

The first half of the day will focus on attuning to the body and nervous system, fostering deep listening, and exploring vocal technique through a body-based lens. The session will touch upon:

  • Sensory awareness and interoception (the felt sense within the body)

  • Breath and movement as access points for sounding

  • The relationships between sound, sensation, and various vocal qualities

  • Often overlooked anatomical connections and their relevance to singing

  • Cultivating a curious, non-judgmental approach to the voice

  • Singing as an act of self care and enquiry

  • Soulful improvisation and harmonic explorations

This session will guide us into a deeply embodied state, offering new understandings of how your body coordinates to create sound. Working with the body as the site of emotional processing may also invite self reflection and insight into mental and/or emotional states. While this practice is not therapy, as a trauma informed facilitator Kate is trained to hold a safe space for anything that may arise.

Afternoon Session:
Collective Musical Play

The second half of the workshop will shift into a more group-oriented dynamic of movement, play and musical exploration. Through accessible games and exercises, we will touch upon:

  • Exploring the edges of sounding into singing and vice versa

  • Rhythm and harmony

  • Musical language

  • Melody-making

  • Roles and frameworks for collaborative vocal improvisation

This session leans into the joy of making music together, encouraging exploration, creativity, and social connection.
